Ponds & Water Features...

A water feature really enhances your garden. Not only is it soothing to the ear, but it also encourages wildlife.

Garden Project Tip:

Try underwater lighting. This really does set off your garden at night, allowing you to enjoy it what ever the time is.

Ponds can be any shape and size, just use your imagination. They can as deep as you like, depending on how far down you are prepared to dig! Bear in mind though, that the size and depth of the pond, determines how many fish and plants it can hold.

Pond plants love water. Plants such as the waterlily, like to be in deep water, the water soldier likes to float freely, but rushes like to stand proud at the edge of the pond. A Bog Garden looks good alongside a pond. Bog plants love wet soil, but don't like to sit in a puddle of water. The Corkscrew rush and Giant rhubarb are both striking bog plants..

Fountains add interest to any pond, and also help to keep the pond clear. Fountains are run by a pump, which can be either solar powered, or mains electric . It is better to use Solar Power energy whenever possible in the garden.

Fish ponds can be enjoyed by all the family. Gardeners can plant their marginals, and float their lillies, whilst the pet lovers can admire their Goldfish or Koi Carp. Please remember that water is lethal where chldren are involved. Ponds are not recommended when small children are about.

An alternative water feature can include a pebble pool, a spouting gargoyle or water bubble. In these cases, the water resevoir is hidden, and so does not cause a hazard to youngsters.
