-  The poppy species have been cultivated for many years and come in many colours ranging from dark solid colors to soft pastel shades

California poppy (Eschscholzia californica)

 

The California poppy is a fast growing hardy annual that thrives in bright sunshine. Faded heads should be picked off to encourage further growth.  The flowers close up over night, and re-open the following morning. The seeds can be left to reset themselves, or can be collected and sown in mid spring.
